Sustainability
A sound business case for Ísar customers
A core objective of the Ísar project is to have a measurably positive net effect on the environment.
Ísar has had two decades of research to envision, create and fuse together a collection of technical, operational and systems innovations into one down to earth, financially sustainable sustainability package we call:
LIGHTFOOT
Low Impact Ultra High Mobility Modular Passenger Carrier Platform
LIGHTFOOT elements range from technical solutions:
-
Non-corroding, very high strength, lightweight construction materials have many positive effects on Ísar‘s sustainabilty index:
-
A structure that does not corrode means the lifetime of the vehicle structure is multiplied in the areas where rust can destroy vehicles long before they wear out.
-
Long life structures keep vehicle value up so that repair or replacement of worn out parts become an economical choice, and even more valuable for the enveronment.
-
Non-corroding bodyshells and structures do not need paint. This saves 20-30% of the fiscal cost of producing a road vehicle, some 60% of the energy to produce a vehicle, nearly all VOC emission is from the paint process and so on, but Ísar‘s No Paint! innovation is of even larger benefit to the environment.
-
The non-corroding materials chosen to save 1-3 tons of curb weight compared to other, lower performing vehicles now used for off-pavement travel.
-
Using special oversize Low Ground Pressure tyres instead of tracks for an off-pavement vehicle saves some 40-60% in fuel consumtion.
-
Ísar‘s sensible solutions to replace fossil fuel by carbon neutral energy depending on the local conditions, allow fossil fuel replacement to spread from the 0.1% of earth that is paved, to pristine wildernesses that deserve to be pollution free.
Other unique system solutions that, when implemented, can have even stronger environmental effects than the technical ones:
-
Infrastructure investment decisions in rural or remote areas can be reconsidered given the new, unique option of Ísar vehicles and Roadless Rapid Transit™ systems instead.
-
The environmental cost of road infrastructure is ever more coming into consideration in infrastructure decisionmaking.
Roadless Rapid Transit™ all-terrain passenger transit concept
Instead of adapting nature to vehicles, we adapt vehicles to nature. This allows rapid, comfortable, safe and economical travel and transit in all areas of the globe with poor road infrastructure. This spares the destruction of habitats and natural features by road infrastructure construction.
Ísar RRT™ systems can be powered by green energy options adapted to different economies and environments, from carbon capture methanol to full electric. The basis for RRT™ are the unique Ísar vehicles and their absorbent, long-travel suspension systems, and large pillow-like Low Ground Pressure tyres for negligible soil compaction and surface disruption.
Ísar has already won a contract to set up a Roadless Rapid Transit™ system to link two towns 150km apart.
